From fishtail to French – braids have always been popular but this summer we continue to see our favourite styles shine. I’m a massive braid fan so today we are focusing on the oh-so- adorable & oh-so-simple milkmaid braid.
This hairstyle has been spotted on many of young Hollywood such as Sarah Hyland & Jennifer Lawrence and has stayed a firm favorite amongst many of the young stars. So how do you get to look oh-so-stylish? It’s actually way simpler than it looks.
- Dry Shampoo or any other styling product. I’m a fan of Tresemee Instant Refresh Dry Shampoo available at leading retailers
- A strong hairspray. I love Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray in Strong Flexible Hold
- 2 clear hair elastics
- Several Bobby pins
- Any comb or brush or my fav, the Tangle Teezer
STEP 1: Spritz some dry shampoo or a styling product of your choice into your hair to give it some grip.
STEP 2: Part your hair down middle. (If you have a difficult time keeping the two sections separated, loosely tie off one side in a low ponytail to keep it out of the way until needed.) Don’t forget to leave some wispy strands in front for a more messy & chilled look.
STEP 3: Braid both sides of your hair (either your normal 3 strand braid or a fishtail) just behind the lower part of your ear securing them with clear elastics. Wrapping the strands loosely will give you a thicker, chunkier braid.
STEP 4: Pull your braid from one side across the top of your head and behind the opposite ear. The braid should sit on the crown of your head – where you would normally pace a headband. As you do this, use bobby pins to keep the braid in place.
STEP 5: Repeat this step on the other side
STEP 6: Tuck the ends under the opposite braid without disrupting the braid’s placement on the head.
STEP 7: Finish off with some hairspray and this versatile up do will work for a casual Sunday brunch, night out and even your next summer wedding.
Tip: Keep in mind this look is best done messy, so don’t worry about it looking perfect!
